Government Moves to Steady Jute Prices With Export Suspension and District-Level Monitoring

To calm a volatile domestic raw jute market, Bangladesh's government has suspended raw jute exports while the Department of Jute runs continuous field-level monitoring of prices and availability. The move sits within a wider commodity-stabilisation push: deputy commissioners nationwide have been directed to prioritise a coordinated action plan that keeps essential goods markets stable and supply uninterrupted, with strengthened monitoring at the district level.

The Commerce, Industries, Textiles and Jute Minister has also announced plans to deploy AI-based monitoring across roughly 30 highly sensitive commodities, giving officials a faster read on emerging price pressure than manual district reporting alone can provide.

MONITORING:District-Level Oversight Across 30 Sensitive Commodities

For jute buyers and mills, a temporary export suspension is a blunt instrument, but a predictable one: it prioritises domestic raw-material availability and price stability over short-term export volume, which mills sourcing raw jute domestically should read as a signal of firmer, more even pricing in the near term rather than a supply risk. Exporters selling finished jute goods rather than raw fibre are largely insulated from the suspension itself, since it targets unprocessed raw jute specifically.

MASK Associates continues to track daily mandi price data through its own Jute Volatility Index, which will be the fastest way to see whether this monitoring push is actually translating into calmer prices over the coming weeks, rather than waiting on a quarterly government review.
